Welcome to SCRIPTURE.

SCRIPTURE is a newsletter that provides you with cutting-edge info about the Bible from trusted academic sources in language that anyone can understand. There are a lot of people who give their opinion about what the Bible means, but not a lot of them have the training or expertise to navigate these texts people call Scripture. If you’re a student, a teacher, a pastor, or just hungry for anything and everything that will help you understand the Bible better, you’ve come to the right place.

My name is Isaac Soon, and I have a PhD in Theology & Religion from Durham University.1 One of the things that has always frustrated me about reading the Bible is that there is so much information out there but it’s hard to know what is trustworthy or up-to-date. A lot of misinformation passes hand to hand. I want to make sure that everyone who reads the Bible has access to the best information.

Reading the Bible is like eating a nourishing meal. I want to make sure that you are cooking with the best ingredients.

On the other hand, professional Bible scholars are not always easy to understand. They sometimes use language that even confuses those of who are already in the academy! I believe in bridging the gap between the wonderful world of Bible scholarship and You, the reader. SCRIPTURE is that bridge.

Each article features the work of current scholarship and will focus on an important Bible figure, topic, word, verse, and recent research
